I like my denim stiff as cardboard. The way it was originally intended to be.
During my stint at Ralph Lauren, back in Double RL, the education I received on clothing quickly became a passion. Not just a passion on how to wear it, but where it came from… the history of it. In our year together, Alex had a lot to do with my education in quality clothing, specifically in the world of American workwear. Alex could easily be referred to as a denim head. Words and phrases like selvedge, 14oz, chain-stitched, and hand riveting come up quite often in conversation between us. How the japanese have perfected the art of making the fabric is a conversation you’d probably find us having over beers.
I shot Alex in his favorite pair of denim, a raw indigo pair that has been worn in over a period of a year and a half (no pre-wash bought items for him).
I could write about the subject of denim until my fingers fell off, but that is for another time (and another blog post). I challenge you in the meantime to dive into what makes a good pair of jeans, research it, and maybe even go out and buy a raw pair of indigo dyed denim. In about a year, I promise you, they’ll be your favorite pair.
