Is it un-cool to comment on your own photos? Not when they look like this... I have been crying at my desk all morning, which is killing my office street cred.
Karlin, you are a dime-piece.
(04.26.10 @ 09:26 AM)Karlin, these are lovely! just gorgeous, and love the photo of the girls. Too cute.

(05.16.10 @ 10:31 PM)So I'm a bad blogger. We all know that. I want to be better. And I'm trying....I swear I am.
I've never been very personal on here, and I'm thinking, this year, that's going to change some.
Starting today.
I got a package in the mail today from my dad. Just a t-shirt. One of a million that I have gotten over the years. Being the daughter of a fireman t-shirts are a regular occurrence that I have come to take for granted. Shirts from organizations, restaurants, etc... Tokens of appreciation for the service they provide, the good deeds they have done, and sometimes, the people they save....
This one in particular came from a baseball team from Bluffton University in Ohio. Who, back in 2007, while traveling to a tournament, spent a tragic morning in Atlanta after their bus flipped off an overpass on I-75. The crash was fatal, some of their brothers lost, but many, many, saved. Saved because of my dad and others like him. Men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect and serve people they have never met before.
I have come, over the years, to take his job for granted. Never fully registering when I was younger that smoky smell he would have, a smell that I would forever associate with him, when I hugged him as he was coming in from a shift meant he had saved something. A baby doll, maybe a pet:), and sometimes, a life. Never understanding that those mornings when I received flowers at school just because, or just a little tighter smoky hug, that that morning, they had not been so lucky, and somewhere, someone else was not able to hug their daughter.
I asked for the shirt a while back, one, because I love a t-shirt and he knows it. And two, because when people asked, I could tell them why I have it. A token of thank you for his service. A token that makes me proud to be his daughter.
So thanks dad. Thanks for hugs. Thanks for being so selfless, putting others before yourself more times than I will probably ever know about. And mostly...
thanks for the shirt:)
happy thursday!

my dad. 6th district fire school. 1980
This is such a wonderful post! Knowing your dad I can testify that he is a wonderful person! Not just a regular guy that you meet but honestly a true and genuine father. He loves you more than anything and it's so obvious! I'm so glad you wrote this for all of us to read!
(02.11.10 @ 01:20 PM)Thanks for being my daughter. I Love You probably more than you will ever know. I am thankful everyday that I can still HUG you because their are others(friends, family, and people I never new their names) that will never have that opportunity again to hug someone they love. Over the years, seeing what I have seen, has changed my perception on life and what is truly important. Something as simple as a hug or I Love You means more than anything money can buy. Life is to short so enjoy everyday. Thanks for being you.
Love
DAD
Well my little sister has sure grown all up! I am very proud of you and have to admit tears are streaming down my face as I read this. Love you!
(02.11.10 @ 03:38 PM)Well my little sister has sure grown all up! I am very proud of you and have to admit tears are streaming down my face as I read this. Thank you for sharing your dad with me! Love you
This is so perfect and true. We take the people closest to us for granted and I am the same way to my father... This made me cry and make me feel like a bad daughter.
(02.11.10 @ 05:27 PM)Well said Karlin....
My father was a firefighter in England for over 26 years (now retired) and its only recently that I realised just how dangerous his profession is and how difficult it must have been to leave me and my sister each day before going to work.
On Myspace there is a section on about me titled "Hero's" where most people name sports/ rock / movies stars or inspiration figures such as Gandhi or Martin Luther King... mine simple says my Dad, a firefighter of 26 years and a true hero.

Lovely! Gorgeous afternoon light. And, I'm a sucker for a bride who is genuine rather than smiling just at the photographer's prompting. There is something beautiful about the direct look into the camera.
